As a way of containing the activities of killer Fulani herdsmen, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has deployed 200 officers of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun to Ibarapa and Oke Ogun zones.

This is in the wake of the crisis in the area between local farmers and Fulani herdsmen accused of masterminding rape, murder, and kidnapping.

The state government said on Wednesday that the officers were deployed after a meeting with security agencies and stakeholders in Ibarapa land.

The meeting was held with representatives of Igangan, Ibarapa land, the recently appointed Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko, and other stakeholders.

“We have resolved to redeploy 200 members of the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in the state, especially in the Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun zones.

“These operatives will launch missions to rid the forests of criminals. They will be presenting daily reports of their activities to me in the short run and periodic reports in the long run.”

The governor said that town hall meetings and community outreaches would hold in few weeks to enable residents and security officers to talk about issues of immediate concerns.

Recall that last week, Sunday Igboho, Yoruba activist, served killer Fulani a seven-day ultimatum to quit Yorubaland. Later the residence, cars and cows of Seriki Fulani in Ibarapa were set ablaze.
