Opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Nigeria is in quandary over the resignation of seven deputy national officers of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in protest against what they referred to as “poor leadership.”

The officials resigned on Monday in separate letters to the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus and noted they will not be able to work with the current NWC.

Those who resigned include the deputy national financial secretary, the deputy legal adviser, the deputy national auditor, the deputy national publicity secretary, the deputy women leader and the deputy organising secretary.

ARISE News is yet to confirm the seventh officer. Calls to Kola Ologbodiyan, the national publicity secretary of the party were not successful.

The party has been hit with crisis in recent months with some Governors defecting to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi in November 2020 confirmed his defection to the APC, hinging his decision on “injustice being done to the South-East by the PDP since 1998 till date”.

The next set of defections that followed Umahi’s were Governor of Cross River state Ben Ayade and Governor of Zamfara state Bello Matawalle, in May and June 2021.

The current NWC members led by Mr Secondus were elected for a four-year tenure in 2018 and they would leave office in December this year.
