The vacuum created by the defection of the immediate past state Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State chapter to All Progressives Congress, APC, has been filled by the party.
Godwin Afangide who had resigned his position defected with his one-time boss and brother, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday, August 8 at Ikot Ekpene Sports Stadium to APC.
Afangide, a one-time state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources under ex-governor Godswill Akpabio, hails from Essien Udim local government area.
Consequently, Sunyie Inokon who until now was the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Industrial Relations from 2015 has been named the new state deputy chairman of the party.
A source from Government House, Uyo told Straightnews that the appointment was announced, Wednesday, August 15 after Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District stakeholders presented him to an enlarge caucus meeting of PDP attended by members of State Executive Committee and state stakeholders and was received by Obong Paul Ekpo, the state chairman of the party.
Later, Ini Ememobong, the state publicity secretary of the party in statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, August 15 stated that the new deputy chairman has been accepted by the state executive committee members of the party.
Inokon, who was elected to complete the unexpired tenure of the late Barr. Nsini Umossoh of Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara/Essien Udim Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2006 and 2007, hails from Afaha Ikot Ebak, headquarters of Essien Udim local government area in Akwa Ibom State.
Between 2014 and 2015, he was Senior Special Assistant on Electoral Matters to the then Governor.
A former Secretary of Essien Udim local government council from 1999-2002, Inokon is also an outgoing Lay President of Methodist Church of Nigeria.
