Police Special Intelligence Response Team in Abuja Monday rescued 413 cows, 50 sheep swindled by gun-wielding bandits from their owners in Kagarko bush along Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
During an ensuing fierce gun battle with the bandits, the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team led by ACP Abba Kyari killed two robbery suspects said to have swirled the cows and sheep from their owners, while the remaining fled.
A source at Police headquarters in Abuja stated that “On the Monday, 27th November, 2017, at about 2 a.m, IRT operatives on Operation Absolute Sanity along Abuja-Kaduna expressway engaged some armed robbers moving with hundreds of stolen cows.
“During the fierce gun battle, two of the armed robbers met their waterloo as others fled and abandoned 413 stolen cows and 5O sheep.
“The cows and sheep were moved to Katari town where the following owners came to identify their stolen cows as follows: Idi Ibrahim – 71 cows, Abdullah Sani – 45 cows, Ibrahim Mohd – 13 cows and Adamu Lawal – 21 cows and 26 sheep.
Other owners were Suleiman Sa’idu- 33 cows and two sheep, Hamisu Ya’u- eight cows, Musa Sani- 65 cows and 13 sheep, Alhaji Sale Sani -60 cows, Alhaji Rumi -17 cows, Yakubu Katafila – two cows and Yusuf Muhammad – two cows while 76 cows and nine sheep were not claimed.
The Police assured that “Serious efforts to arrest the remaining bandits who have terrorizing and people kidnapping people along the hihway are in progress.”
