The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has described any officer who insists on checking a citizen’s phone as a scavenger.

Adejobi in a tweet shared on his handle, said except a phone is an exhibit for investigation, no officer has the right to ask a citizen to open his phone for checks.

A Twitter user had asked him if the police had right to check one’s phone on the road.

    The Twitter user asked:

“Sir, please does a police have right to check phone if I am on the road?

“Please I need your answer sir.

    “Thank you.”

    Responding, Adejobi tweeted,

“No policeman has the right to check one’s phone anywhere except the phone is an exhibit in a case under investigation and that phone must be marked as exhibit.

“Any policeman who does that is not a policeman but rather a scavenger.”

Reacting, Adejobi in a tweet shared on his handle, said except a phone is an exhibit for investigation, no officer has the right to ask a citizen to open his phone for checks.
