Operatives of Akwa Ibom Police Command have rescued seven pregnant women and five infants in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, DSP Timfon John, in a statement in Uyo on Friday, March 21, 2025, said operatives had arrested one suspect and uncovered an illegal maternity home allegedly involved in child trafficking, unlawful medical practice, and impersonation
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command raided the premises and arrested one Patience Ene Jimmy, ‘f’, who was found harbouring seven pregnant women and five infants aged between two weeks and one year, all from different parts of Akwa Ibom State,” the statement read.

“Further search led to the recovery of various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records, for which the suspect had no legal authorization.
“The rescued women and children have been placed under protective care, while investigations are ongoing to uncover other collaborators and ensure justice is served.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to dismantling illegal activities endangering vulnerable individuals.
“The State Police Boss urges residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
