The inability of many political office holders in the country to render selfless services and use public funds to address a myriad of problems confronting the populace is a source of worry to many a people.
One of the persons is Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock, Lagos.
Adefarasin who preached at 2018 Akwa Ibom State Christmas Carols Festival decalred “Political office in Nigeria is for personal gain. A public office holder must be a servant not otherwise.
“God will speak to the conscience of our leaders to address our problems.”
Preaching on the theme “Let the people say Amen,” Adefarasin explained “When God makes you a promise, He’s telling you that something has already happened because He lives in the future as He is in the present and in the past.”
Reading from Luke 7:1-17, he said “Our currency is highly devalued. It will suffer more devaluation. Our institutions are weak. A country with weak institutions cannot make progress. God will stop our progress in the wrong direction. God will stop our downward progression.”
Adefarasin predicted “In 2019, there will be interesting things. Inglorious things will happen in the country. Many people will be disappointed. Many will be happy. God is not PDP; He is not APC. He is God. On whatever side you stand, make sure it is God’s side.”
“There shall be turnaround in the country. Weep not! Wipe away your tears!,” he admonished.
He advocated “Elections must be free from intimidation for people to perform their adult suffrage. Let us pray for elections to be transparent. Let us pray for the elections to be peaceful. The elections must be peaceful for the country to witness peace.”
The preacher used the occasion to predict “Akwa Ibom State will one day become the greatest state in the country. The foundation is properly laid. Not too many decades from now. God will bring builders. They will cast out secret occultists and armed robbers. And there will be peace in the land.”
Aniekpeno Mkpanang, the co-ordinator of Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival, said “The theme of this year’s Christmas carols is a concise portrait of approval, agreement and affirmation by Akwa Ibomites to progress, development and to the fulfillment of our collective hopes and aspirations. It is the largest of any kind on earth.”
Mkpanang who is Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the state and has run the programme for 11 years urged the people to “say Amen to peace in the state. Let the people say Amen to prosperity in the state.”
