The managing director of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Uchechi Orji has been re-appointed for another term of five years.

A statement by the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, on Thursday, October 12 said President Muhammadu Buhari approved the re-appointment.

According to the statement, Orji, who has been serving in that position since October 2012 for an initial term of five years, renewable for another term of five years, was re-appointed by the president following his achievements at the government agency.

Adesina stated that under Orji’s leadership, the NSIA had made remarkable strides, and its assets now stand at over $2 billion, which is invested in Nigerian Infrastructure, Economic Stabilization and Future Generation Funds.

The presidential aide said in line with section 16(2) of the NSIA Act, the National Economic Council had in July, 2017, endorsed the renewal of Orji’s appointment, given his performance in the first term.

The statement added that the president also approved the nomination of Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma from Adamawa state as the director general of the Nigerian Law School. Chiroma who is a Professor of Law, and currently the deputy director in charge of the Yola campus of the Nigerian Law School will succeed Mr. Olanrewaju Onadeko, who is due for retirement.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm Aishah Ahmad as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Ahmad’s nomination as deputy governor of the apex bank had been announced by the presidency on Thursday, October 5.

NAIJ.com gathers that Ike Ekweremadu, deputy Senate president, stated that Ahmad would replace one of the CBN’s deputy governors who had retired earlier this year and as such, her confirmation was necessary.
