Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara state has accused the security agencies for failing to stop the killings that occured in the state despite a 24-hour notice prior to the attack.

Yari speaking Friday while he led a group of five Northern governors on a sympathy visit to the Palace of Emir of Zurmi said the security agencies in the area failed to to prevent the killings that occurred in the state about 48 hours ago.

He said the agencies and its operatives failed to tackle the problem of cross-border banditry and terrorism affecting communities in the area.

The governor noted: “Whatever was humanly possible that needed to be done, we as a government have done to mitigate this disaster. But it does appear that security agencies are failing in their responsibilities.

“I feel let down facing the people of this state whenever I remember the promise I made to them that if they elected President Muhammadu Buhari into power, these killings would end.

“Unfortunately, things are now getting worse.  As such, I urge you security agencies to up the ante so as not to lose this war. If you let us put the matter in our hands, anarchy will reign, which is not what we hope for.

“On this particular incident, we had intelligence reports 24 hours before it happened that the bandits were grouping and ready to attack. I alerted the security agencies unfortunately, they sent inadequate personnel to confront these people,” the governor said.

Not less than 41 people were killed at Birane village in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Chief of Army Staff to the state to fish out culprits of the heinous crime.
