Security operatives have uncovered a suspected baby factory in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
Consequently, Operation Akpakwu, a security outfit, recently set up by the Cross River Government has rescued 24 pregnant women and 11 children from the suspected baby factory in Calabar.
The Officer Commanding 13 Brigade Provost of the Nigerian Army, Stanley Ikpeme who represented 13 Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Mohammed Abdullahi has handed over the victims to the officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
However, Ikpeme stated that his security outfit has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged crime.
NAPTIP official, Oba Jacobs, who received the victims vowed to investigate and charge the suspects to court.
“Investigation is ongoing and there might be other arrests. It is not possible to interview the victims now because they are under shelter,” Jacob said, adding that currently, the agency was combing Calabar and its environs to fish out those behind the baby factory.
