The Archbishop and President of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Dr. Christian Ekong handed down the advice in his homily at a special thanks giving service to round off a four-day Synodical Convention of the church held at its headquarters at Obot-Idim Ibesikpo, to usher in the new year.

Most Rev. Dr. Ekong who spoke on the theme “Christ for you” gave an insight into the significance of the celebration of the birth and baptism of Jesus, saying through those  singular exercises, God’s abundant grace has been bestowed upon believers.

He urged Nigerians to see the upcoming elections as an opportunity to prepare for good and workable government in the Country and be fully involved by voting wisely, faithfully and conscientiously.

Highlight of the event was fundraising for Evangelism and Lutheran University project where the Chairman on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Prof. Charles Wokoma  lauded the Lutheran Church for investing in the lives of the young people.

The Special guest of Honour and PDP gubernatorial candidate in the State, Pastor Umoh Eno gave an assurance that his government, if voted into power will strongly identify with the University project and urged all to choose leaders that will better solve the problems of the people and the State.

The chairman, planning Committee and Head of civil service, Elder Effiong Essien thanked God, Guests and members for joining forces with the church to record a successful spiritual event in 2023.

Other activities during the event included, bible studies, lectures, fasting and prayer, testimonies and praise night.

Members who spoke with our reporter noted that the essence of the spiritual fiesta was to tap into the outpouring of God’s blessings for the new year and expressed joy that the convention was all round successful.
