A soldier and six policemen were, Wednesday, March 3 killed by unidentified gunmen as they attacked two checkpoints manned by the Nigerian Police Force in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The early morning attack occurred at Ofotura communities, where two officers were killed while another four officers were also killed at Oyadama check point and their arms were carted away by the hoodlums, CroosRiverWatch reports.
Spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the attack to Daily Trust said officers were killed while their arms were carted away.
Among the dead included a popular Inspector Best Okereke, a native of Imabana community in neighboring Abi Local Government Area who was shot in the chest and his fingers were chopped off.
A soldier who manned another checkpoint was said to have been shot in the hand but died several hours later.
This came barely a week after four policemen were shot dead at Idundu axis of Calabar.
