The 41st Regular Council of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria has ended with a call on Nigerian leaders to find lasting solutions to the lingering economic and security challenges bedeviling the country.
The National President of the Church, Most Rev. Dr. Christian Ekong made the call in his sermon at the grand finale of the meeting, which took place at the Luther Cathedral Obot Idim Ibesikpo in Akwa Ibom State.
Rev. Ekong who is also the Archbishop of the Church lamented that Nigerians were in need of justice, good governance, public utilities, peace, and security and urged the leaders to give life a meaning.
Preaching on the theme Called by Christ to Bear Fruits, the Spiritual leader admonished Christians to prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ by bearing good fruits, stressing that those who wait actively and patiently on God will be rewarded.
He described the Regular Council meeting of the church as a convergence of the highest policy-making body of the church where the Presidency, Board of Directors, Trustees, Ministerial workers, official delegates of board and committees meet to deliberate on issues affecting the church and state of the nation.
The council in a 20-point resolution approved the restructuring of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Uyo District into Uyo District and Uyo Central District with effect from January next year.
The resolution signed by the National President of the Church, Most Rev. Dr. Christian Ekong and Secretary, Rev. Godwin Eshiet also approved the investiture of Deaconess Inyang Asibong of Redeemer cathedral of the church and the State Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, 37 Enwe Street, Uyo as Luther Ambassadors . The investiture is fixed for January 10, 2021.
Elder Effiong Essien, who was the Chairman Planning Committee of the council meeting, said decisions taken will help to reposition the church for greater efficiency.
