07Three persons were, on Monday, killed by suspected cultists in Ipoo Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The victims, Ogechi Amesi and his brother, Chinumezi Amesi, natives of Ibaa community in Emohua LGA, and one other person, yet to be identified, were killed in their barbers shop by the gunmen in Ipoo community while they were working. One of the victim’s brothers, Iheanyi Njoku, said the suspected cultists stormed the barber’s shop owned by the two brothers and opened fire, killing three and leaving one other with bullet wounds.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said he has not been informed of the development. However, a senior police officer attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, who confided in our reporter, confirmed the attack, adding that security operatives have been put on alert and have moved in to restore normalcy. The officer added that remains of two of the victims have been deposited at a mortuary, while one has been buried in Ipoo.
The member representing Ikwerre state constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Azubuike Wanjoku, has condemned the killing at Ipoo, describing it as inhuman. Wanjoku said it was bad for anyone to take the life of another person, and tasked security operatives to ensure that those behind the tragedy are fished out and prosecuted.
