Suspected cultists Sunday night beheaded and escaped with the head of youth president of Inen Ikot Owok in Inen Clan, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The cultists were said to have caught Hezekiah John Adaiden, dragged him to a corner in his compound, beat him into a coma and cut off his head leaving the headless body in the pool of his blood.

An eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. when a group of suspected cultists, known by the deceased, visited him and were entertained with drinks before another group descended on him while they were still drinking.

According to him, the hoodlums looted the deceased property and poured the wife’s soup on her head before they escaped with the head of her husband.

“Till now, we cannot understand what happened. The cultists arrived at the compound at a very odd hour in the night and since they are known by the youth president, he offered them drinks.

“While they were drinking at about 1 a.m., another group, well-armed, arrived and were very violent as they dragged the victim to a corner and killed him.

”The most annoying thing is that they beheaded him and escaped with the head after they had tortured his wife and poured the soup which the wife cooked on her head as they beat her mercilessly,” the eye witness narrated.

Reacting to the incident, Odiko MacDon,, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom,  described the incident as barbaric, adding that the perpetrators cannot escape unpunished.

Macdon, the Superintendent of Police, said the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered the Criminal and Investigation Department ( CID) to commence investigations into the matter.

“There is an ongoing manhunt in the area to arrest perpetrators of such crime. However, normalcy has been restored in the area. There is peace in the area now. A special squad has been drafted to the area to fish out the criminals. I can assure you that the suspects would be arrested and brought to book,” he added.
