The cry for hunger among people in Nigeria and in Akwa Ibom has risen to high Heavens as COVID-19 pandemic is ravaging the land.

Before the pandemic, the poverty curve was sharpened but the pandemic has worsened the matter, particularly as the vulnerable people and jobless are daily crying for foods.

The Akwa Ibom Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko on Monday admitted this in his radio interview, “There is hunger in the land.”

This is despite the distribution of palliatives by governments, groups, Non-Governmental Organisations and individuals to the various persons and unemployed and vulnerable persons in the states, local government areas, Churches and Mosques.

Speaking in Comfort 95.1 FM, Uyo on Monday, May 4, Mr. Nwoko who gave verve to the Quarantine and Restriction of Movement Order renewed by Governor Udom Emmanuel said the order is still in force.

Nwoko said the governor eased the pandemic lockdown order to enable free movements of the people and to open up the economy of the state, explaining that the governor has the constitutional power to extend the order which will expire in May 16 depending on the spread of the pandemic in the state.

He noted that the pandemic which culminated in the lockdown has brought untold hardships to the people but advised them to take precautionary measures against the deadly virus.

The Attorney-General who thanked God that the pandemic case was not escalating in the state urged the people to continue to observe social distancing, wear face masks, and stay away from social gatherings, religious activities, and burials, among others.
