Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode reacted angrily to an interviewer who asked him if his defection to All Progressives Congress has financial linkage.
Speaking on Channels TV last night on his recent defection from PDP to APC, FFK said he felt insulted when he was asked if his defection to the ruling party he has always criticized, was ”financially related” as claimed by his critics.
”I don’t expect that kind of ridiculous and absurd question from you. I have never ever lacked in finances. There have been no inducements. Politicians don’t move because of finances. If I wanted finance, I would have moved a lot sooner than today. I have struggled and I have fought over the last six years than any of the little monkeys that said what you just said to me now.
”I stand proud and I stand tall. The kind of family I come from, the kind of background I have finance is never an issue, but of course this is always the absurd narrative that people with a very small brain, with low intelligence quotient will always put out when they feel threatened and I don’t care.
”You can insult me from morning till night. It means nothing to me. What important to me is my God and the fact that I am doing the right thing at the right time.
”I am considerably more wealthy than most people think and I don’t need anything from anybody. I work hard, I have always worked hard and I never lacked anything good. When I was fighting the government, you didn’t talk about finances or no finances.
”Now that I am not fighting the government you are talking about finances or no finances. It’s an old narrative. It’s an old story particularly form Nigerians from a particular segment of society like to say about those of us that are in the elite and I am not prepared to such rubbish and I am surprised you can ask me that kind of question.
”Why don’t you go and ask a number of others that same question when they defect. It’s a very insulting question and no basis to it whatsoever.”
He said it is absolutely clear that the perception that himself and some others had in the past of the Buhari administration is clearly wrong.
FFK defected to the APC today September 16. His defection came as a surprise as he had in the past vowed never to join the party.
Fani-Kayode, who was a guest on Channels Television Thursday September 16, said “It is absolutely clear to me that the perception that we had in the past, that many people had, is clearly wrong. We can work together, we can come together, we can build bridges, we can effect unity in this country.
”A man that I believe would not listen to anybody else in the past, I was quite wrong on that. With his receptive ears, his reception, and those around him; I have seen that definitely this is a man that one can work with provided you go through the right channels.”
Speaking further, he said “However, having moved closer to him (Buhari) over the last few months, I have discovered a lot of things that I did not know before. There is a lot going on behind the scenes.
”The most important thing is this – if I believe in a certain philosophy or I believe that we should move in a certain direction, and I am getting positive responses when I act from within the family as it were, and do so behind closed doors and ensure that change is effected in terms of policy.
”The way in which the country is run, the way in which disputes are settled among our various people and in terms of war against terror, and I get positive results on the consequence of my personal contributions at various levels; then I have to respect that.
”Over the last few years, I spoke against him (Buhari) probably more than anybody else in this country. I am not saying Mr President is an angel and I am certainly not saying he is a demon; I am saying he is a man like every other man.”
Meanwhile, Precious Chikwendu has dropped a shade post after her estranged husband, Femi Fani-Kayode joined APC.
Chikwendu who recalled the advice she was given by her father, said he told her that a “good name is better than riches.”
She also stated that her father told her “a thief is never ashamed because his actions are always against his kinsmen.”
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said he was wrong about some of his criticisms of the Buhari administration in the past.
