Deontay Wilder has been taken to hospital following his brutal knockout defeat to Tyson Fury in Las Vegas, United States of America.
The American was knocked down on three occasions in a fight of the year contender. The bout was waved off immediately by referee Russell Mora after Wilder was heavily floored for a third and final time in the 11th round.
Wilder suffered his second straight defeat to the Brit, who retained his WBC strap with the victory, and the American will now undergo precautionary tests in hospital.
This was as WBC and Lineal Heavyweight champion, Fury beat Wilder for the third and final time on Saturday, October 9, in a very entertaining heavyweight clash in Las Vegas.
Fury delivered a full blow in the 11th round to end Wilder’s defiant display.
Fury, 33, was floored twice in the fourth round, having sent Wilder to the canvas in the third round.
The 35-year-old will not be kept overnight, however, with his manager Shelly Finkel insisting Wilder is in good health.
Boxing journalist Dan Rafael tweeted: ‘Was texting with Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel.
”Said Deontay is OK and won’t be staying overnight at the hospital.’
Wilder himself did speak after the fight, insisting he wasn’t sure what went wrong.
”I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,’ he said. ‘I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277 pounds to be a ballet dancer.
”He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.”
meanwhile, the reigning Boxing heavyweight champion Fury has blasted Wilder after the Bronze Bomber refused to put their bad blood to bed following their third fight in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 9.
After his win, Fury says he tried to approach Deontay to shake him and hug him but Wilder refused with Fury calling Wilder a ‘sore loser’ for not showing any ‘respect’ for the champion.
Fury said: ”I said “well done, mate” and he said “I don’t want to show any sportsmanship or respect.” I said “No problem.” I was very surprised. Sore loser. Idiot.”
Wilder repeatedly made excuses for his defeat in the pair’s second meeting – and claimed he won the first fight despite the decision of the judges.
”I’m a sportsman,’ Fury added in an interview on BT Sport. ”I went over to (Wilder to) show some love and respect and he didn’t want to show it back. So I pray for him.”
The heavyweight world champion later said in his press conference: ”How can you say I’ve cheated when you know in your own heart and your whole team knows you got beat fair and square?
”It’s a sore loser in boxing. He’s not the first one and he won’t be the last one. But I’ve acted like a gentleman throughout my career and that’s all I can do as a man.”
Speaking from the ring on how the fight developed, Fury said: ”I was down a couple of times, I was hurt, Wilder is a strong puncher.”
”It was a great fight tonight. I will not make any excuses, Wilder is a top fighter, he gave me a run for my money. I always say I am the best fighter in the world and he is the second best.
”Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down I can always deliver.”
