Twenty-one families of slain police officers have received N60 million compensation from Akwa Ibom Government.
The officers were attacked and killed by suspected gunmen at different police formations across the state in less than two months.
The Governor’s Special Assistant on Research and documentation, Essien Nduese, said Governor Udom Emmanuel announced the donation during his visit to the police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.
The statement issued by his media aide noted that the governor was world over the lives of officers wasted, and urged them to rise to the occasion by containing the challenges.
The statement read, “Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, today visited the State Police Headquarters, Uyo to identify with the command over the attacks on security formations in the state.
“Governor Emmanuel who condemned the senseless attacks expressed concerns over the lives of officers wasted.
“He urged the command to rise to the occasion by containing the challenges and made a donation of 60 million naira to families of the deceased officers.”
Receiving the Governor, the Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew said the morale of officers have been lifted by his visit, noting that the command has so far lost 21 personnel, 11 vehicles and seven firearms
He thanked the Governor for the visit and donation, promising to do all within his powers to bring an end to the new wave of criminality in the state.
