The second variant of COVID-19 is showing its fang the more on the people across the globe.
In Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, 255 persons are kept in isolation centres for treatment, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy has said.
In a telephone interview with Straightnews on Wednesday, January 20, Ememobong who is also the state Publicity Chairman of Akwa Ibom COVID-19 Committee, confirmed ‘’At the moment, I can confirm that we have 255 persons in the isolation centres. They are responding to treatment.’’
On how to stop the spread of the pandemic, the Commissioner called on Akwa Ibom people to observe all the non-pharmaceutical measures which include wearing facemask, washing hands regularly and observing social distancing.’’
According to him, ‘’The virus does not recognise the rich or the poor in the society. It is not proper to assume that it infects some people and leave the rest. It treats everybody the same. So, let us be careful to avoid contacting it.’’
On Tuesday, January 19, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed that the state has recorded 31 new COVID-19 infections.
So far, NCDC tweeted that the state has 698 confirmed cases, though 432 persons have been treated and discharged while 10 have passed on.
