Four persons in Imo State were feared to have died after drinking locally brewed gin- ogogoro.
The victims were Chibuzor Nwosu, Ifeanyi Nkwocha, Ada Danganer and Friday Osuji.
It was gathered that the tragic event occurred at a popular drinking joint of one Uwadiegwu Eze, in Imerienwe community, Ngor Okpala local government area of the state on Thursday.
A community leader, Agbara Emma, said that the victims started complaining of stomach pain few minutes after taking the gin and that the story changed by Saturday.
Emma, however, stated that after drinking the gin, Chinonso Amadi, Nnadi Ike, Udoka Ukaegbu, Fineboy Ekeocha, Chiaka Ukaegbu, Onyemauche Igbo and Aboy Amadi, among others survived.
It is suspected that after the incident, the owner of the drinking joint had absconded.
Meanwhile, the survivors are in an intensive care unit of a hospital along Egbu Road, Owerri, while the remains of the dead ones have been deposited in a mortuary in Nguru, Ngor Okpala.
We have called the DPO of Imereinwe, he said that there was no such information reported to the five persons with two truckloads of suspected stolen diesel.
