    House Of Reps: PDP Downs APC’s Engine In A’Ibom

    The just-concluded presidential elections/National Assembly held nationwide has produced victors and losers, while at the same time causing major political upsets in many states and constituencies.

    Of the 10 Federal Constituencies in Akwa Ibom State, the Peoples Democratic Party has swept all the seats leaving none for the struggling All Progressives Congress, APC, the opposition party in the state.

    In Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency, Aniekan Umanah of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon of All Progressives Congress, APC  who was gunning for a third term in the house.

    In Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Mr. Unyime Idem from Ukanafun retired the incumbent and a two-term member of the Green Chambers, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette who was seeking a third term under the platform of the APC.

    Mr. Idem polled 57,443 while the APC candidate got 17,199 winning with more than 40,000 votes. Idem got 25,749 votes from Oruk Anam, and garnered 31, 694 from Ukanafun.

    The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke emerged the winner to represent Etinan/Nsit Ubium/Nsit Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

    Luke, who contested under PDP polled 44,830 votes to defeat Hon. Dan Akpan, his opponent of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 15,800 votes.

    The INEC declared Patrick Ifon as winner for Eket/Onna/Esit Eket/Ibeno. Ifon polled 61,580 votes to defeat his closest rival, Akpabio Kufre of the APC, who scored 11,263 votes.

    Announcing the results, the returning officer, Professor Bassey Antia of the University of Uyo, said that Ifon polled 61,580 votes to defeat his closest rival, Akpabio Kufre of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 11,263 votes. The results was announced at Eket senatorial district collation centre on Monday, February 25.

    Dr. Henry Archibong was re-elected for Itu/Ibiono. He defeated Barr. Edet Ikotidem of APC. Hon.Nse Ekpenyong of Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urue Offong/Oruko Federal Constituency beat Victor Antai of PDP. Hon. Nsikak Ekong under PDP kicked out Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Akpan of APC who was seeking for a second term in the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency.

    Hon. Charles Uduyor Francis of PDP was re-elected after defeating Rt. Hon. Bernard Udoh of APC in Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency; Emmanuel Ukpong Udoh of PDP beat Bar. Edidiong Idiong of APC in Ikono/Ini while Hon. Mike Enyong of PDP, an incumbent defeated Ekerete Ekpenyong of APC in Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency.
