    Senate Confirms A’Ibom Pharmacist, 37 Others As FCC Commissioners

    A prominent Akwa Ibom pharmacist and politician is among the 38 persons confirmed on Tuesday by the Nigerian Senate as commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

    She is Obonganwan Dorah Ebong, a graduate of The Ohio State University, is the Managing Director of Topcare Nigeria Limited, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.

    A woman leader, Ebong is a staunch member of All Progressives Congress, APC.

    President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed the 38 persons to the board of the Commission on April 28, and forwarded the list to the Senate President Ahmad Lawan for confirmation.

    Those confirmed include Muheeba Dankaka, chairperson; Henry Ogbulogo Salihu Bella, lbeabuchi Uche, Mohammad Tijjani, Tonya G. Okio, Silas Mfa Madkpah, Abba Ali Monguno, Nsor Atamgba, Alims Agoda, Tobias Chukwuemeka, lmuetinyan Festus, Sesan Fatoba and Ginika Florence Tor.

    Others: Hamza Mohammad, Diogu Uche, Lawan Ya’u Roni, Hadlza Usman Muazu, Muhammad Awwal Na’lya, Lawal Garba, Abubakar Atiku Bunu, Idris Bello, Daniel James Kola, Are Bolaji, Nasir Kwarra, Suleiman Barau Said, Abiodun Akinlade and Olufemi Lawrence Omosanya.

    The rest are Adeoye Abdulrazak Olalekan, Adeniyi Olowofela, Stephen A Jings, Wokocha Augustine, Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Armaya’u Dauda Abubakar, Jibril Maigari, Saul Garba and Adamu Muhammad Sidi-Ali.

    The letter sent by Buhari to the Senate read “In compliance with the provision of section 154 (1) of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, I write to request for confirmation by the senate for 38 nominees as chairman and members of the Federal Character Commission.”

    After the Senate President had read the letter, the Senators overwhelmingly confirmed the appointees drawn from the 37 states as required by law. Abdullahi Halidu Shinkafi, the lone commissioner, has retired.
