Despite Federal Government’s directive for tertiary institutions to reopen in the country, members of Association of Staff Union of Universities may not call off their months-old industrial action due to continued implementation of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
IPPIS is said to be an information Communications Technology (ICT) project initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll administration for its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
This is as President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated the Federal Government’s position on payment of salaries of University lecturers, insisting that those lecturers who were captured in the IPPIS will continue to draw their salaries without any hitch.
IPPIS capturing is one of the issues in dispute between the Federal Government and ASUU.
Consequently, the lecturers have not been paid their salaries for more than four months.
Stating this resolve on Thursday in his annual budget speech to the joint session of the two Chambers of the National Assembly, he pleaded with ASUU leadership to understand the position of government, aimed at removing fraud from the educational institutions.
In the highlight of the 2021 Appropriation budget being presented to the National Assembly, the President explained that all sectors of the economy would get attention in 2021 budget allocation.
