Nigeria witnessed COVID-19 14 deaths on Monday, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,449 recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

This is as Nigeria recorded 1,617 new confirmed cases, bringing the overall to 11,2004 cases in the country.

Already, 89,939 persons have been discharged, according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Of the new cases, NCDC tweeted ‘’The 1617 new cases are reported from 18 states- Lagos (776), Kaduna (147) Kwara (131), FCT (102), Plateau (78), Edo (59), Ogun (53), Osun (45).

    Others are Rivers (37), Taraba (36), Nasarawa (34), Adamawa (33), Kano (26), Delta (20), Ebonyi (16), Bayelsa (11), Gombe(11) and Borno (2).

It stated ”A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities

”Our discharges today includes 289 community recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines.’’

According to the public health agency, “With the deployment of Rapid Diagnostics Test Kits, we‘re further scaling #COVID19 testing in Nigeria.

”We’ve commenced roll-out in five health facilities in Abuja. Our goal is to roll this out to all tertiary health facilities across the country”

“30% of over 1 million #COVID19 tests carried out in Nigeria were in private labs. The public sector bears majority of the testing burden.’’

‘’We’ve developed a framework for effective private sector engagement. More private sector involvement is critical in the response”

“Between Jan. 2020 & 2021, we activated #COVID19 testing in 112 laboratories across the country.

”Last week, 100,000 samples were tested in a single week, which is the highest since the onset of the outbreak. We have continued to intensify the response activities,” NCDC reported.

NCDC was established in 2011 in response to the challenges of public health emergencies and to enhance Nigeria’s preparedness and response to epidemics through prevention, detection and control of communicable diseases.
