Akwa Ibom Governor’s wife, Martha Udom Emmanuel, has expressed hope that the New Year baby in the state would herald glad tidings for the family and the state in general.

Mrs Emmanuel stated this Sunday when she paid an unscheduled visit to General Hospital, Ikot Okoro in Oruk Anam Local Government Area to welcome the New Year baby with cash and gift items.

The baby boy who was delivered at 00:04hrs by Mrs Goodnews Sunday from Oruk Anam Local Government Area weighed 3.2 kg at birth.

The founder of Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-Initiative (FEYReP) in her motherly disposition cuddled the New Year baby, and offered prayers for God’s protection on him.

As an advocate of Godly parenting, she encouraged the parents of the baby to train him in the way of the Lord by infusing sound Christian ethos so when he grows up, he will not depart from it.

The First Lady also interacted with other nursing mothers in the maternity ward where she gave out special baby packs and cash to their babies.

She welcomed their babies to the world, and wished them happy New Year.

As a compassionate mother of the state, she showed special love and interest to some nursing mothers in the maternity ward of the health-care facility by offsetting their medical bills.

A representative of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Mathias Ikanke, thanked the governor’s wife for the New Year visit and donations to the nursing mothers, and asked that God will reward her bountifully.

Other nursing mothers who benefitted from Mrs Udom’s largesse also registered their thanks to the governor’s wife for her timely and substantial visit the first day of the year to them.

Accompanying the governor’s wife on the visit were the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, and wife of member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Mrs. Udo Kierian, among others.
