As fire for the nationwide protest is about to spark on August 1, a Nigerian has comically identified ‘sponsors’ of the protest.

Shehu Mahdi, a public affairs commentator, listed 40 ‘‘sponsors’’ otherwise seen as triggers of the protest, though the President Bola Tinubu has warned the sponsors indeed Nigerians against embarking on the protest.

Tinubu, however, admitted that he admitted that he had embarked on protest without destroying anything.

In his X handle (formerly Twitter)on Friday, Mahdi mentioned the ‘sponsors’ to include Hunger, Inflation, Fuel pump price, Minimum wage, Power or no light, Bad roads, Budget padding,

Others: Excessive borrowings for looting, Crude oil theft, Dysfunctional functional refineries, Excess electricity & erratic tariffs, Excessive bank charges, Resource control, 1999 constitution, Need for restructuring restructuring, Consumption instead of production, and Arable farmland without subsidized mechanized farming equipment.

The rest include Breakdown of law and order, Injustices at the courts, Failed civil service system, Non functional educational system, Japa syndrome, Corruption, Unaccountability of public office holders, Poor road networks, and Worst housing program

‘‘We’re not begging for power because power belongs to the people, and we, the people, are here to say enough is enough.

‘‘Tackle these things and see if anyone will think of protesting. Enough of unnecessary chasing of irrelevant shadows and imaginary enemies. You are your own enemies,’’ he advised the government.

    Tinubu admits involvement in protest

Meanwhile, President Tinubu said that he took part in the protest against the military regime in the country, but that the protest was not violent adding that he has worked hard to uphold Nigeria’s 25 years of unbroken democracy.

Tinubu made the comment when he received a letter of credence from the new United States ambassador to Nigeria Richard Mille Jr.

The Department of State Services, in a statement on Thursday, said that it has identified those behind the planned nationwide protest adding that they found it to be politically motivated.

The president also, met with a delegation of Islamic leaders led by Sheikh Bala Lau at the State House on Thursday. At that meeting, the president said that his victory at the polls was purely by divine intervention and careful planning, adding that he has no cabal or sponsors.

Reacting to the planned protests, the president said that it is fuelled by anger and hate, that could degenerate into violence and set the country backwards, he re-stated his administration’s commitment to meeting the needs of citizens, emphasizing that Nigeria’s economy is on a path recovery. In 2020 Trump criticised Kamala Harris, saying she would not go on to become the nation’s first female president.
