The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Unyime Idem was among notable Nigerians conferred with an award by the Nigeria’s most prestigious newspaper.
Idem was honoured as the House of Representatives Member of the Year 2025 on Constituency Development by Leadership Newspaper Thursday, February 12.
The prestigious award was presented to him during the 18th Leadership Conference and Awards held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Dr. Amina Mohammed, was the Keynote Speaker for this year’s theme: “Political Stability and Sustainable Development in Africa in an Increasingly Unstable Global System: A Roadmap for Nigeria, the conference brought together top government officials, policymakers, captains of industry and thought leaders from across the country to deliberate on pathways to national growth and stability.
According to Leadership Newspaper, the honour is as a result of Idem’s impactful constituency programmes, projects and people-focused representation, ranging from facilitating federal jobs for hundreds of Akwa Ibomites, sponsorship of foreign scholarships and advanced training for hundreds of youths, training of thousands of youths in ICT and donation of brand new laptops and cash grant to them.
Others include construction of several kilometres of roads, donation of 25 units of 500KVA transformers to all the 24 wards in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, installation of solar-powered street lights across communities in the federal constituency, construction and remodelling of schools, ICT centres, hospitals, distribution of One Billion naira family based business grant to 1000 persons drawn from families across the federal constituency, among others, which are directly improving the lives of my constituents.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award, Idem described the honour as a call to greater service and dedication to grassroots development.
‘‘This award is not just for me, but for the good people of Ukanafun and Oruk Anam who continue to inspire me to serve with passion and commitment. It reaffirms that purposeful representation and people-centred development remain the cornerstone of sustainable national progress.
He reiterated his resolve to deepen constituency engagement, strengthen legislative oversight, and attract more life-changing projects to my federal constituency.
The Leadership Awards, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most credible recognitions of excellence in public service and leadership, celebrate individuals and institutions that have distinguished themselves in various sectors of national life.
