The second edition of the Niger Delta Games ended Thursday at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City as hosts Edo State took an unassailable lead in the overall medals table to dethrone defending champions Bayelsa.

At the close of the competition, Edo topped the medals table with 111 medals made up of 52 gold, 34 silver and 25 bronze.

Delta followed in second place with 39 gold, 29 silver and 34 bronze (102 medals), while defending champions Bayelsa finished third with 25 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze medals (75 overall).

Akwa Ibom came fourth with 16 gold, 17 silver and 22 bronze medals for 55 medals overall while Abia, Cross River, Ondo, Rivers and Imo finished in fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth.

Ondo is occupying the 8th position with 32 medals made up of 6 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze as Imo is rooted in the bottom place with 29 medals; 4 gold, 8 silver and 17 bronze.

Though the medals table will be updated with few Final events to be decided today on the last day of competition, it seems it may not affect the standings of the teams significantly.

Some the final events today are scrabble, football and relay races.
