Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has hailed a member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Dr. Unyime Idem, for his remarkable intervention in donating 25 units of 500 KVA transformers to the 24 wards of the constituency.

Governor Eno particularly lauded his effort and consistency in rehabilitating and restoring electricity to the communities of Ukanafun and Oruk Anam that wallowed in darkness for 15 years.

He hailed Idem who is also the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement, during an Easter Service at All Nations Christian Ministry International, Eket, on Sunday at a church service attended by top government functionaries of the state.

Describing the electrification project as a bold and impactful step towards improving the living conditions of the people, Eno noted that the gesture has not only reconnected the communities to the national grid but also revived economic and social activities in the area.

According to him, “Rt. Hon. Idem is doing a lot in his constituency. He has empowered 1,000 constituents with N1,000,000 each, amounting to N1 billion as business empowerment grant and recently donated 25 units of 500 KVA transformers to the federal constituency.”

He, therefore, urged residents of the benefiting communities to take ownership of the project by safeguarding the transformers and other electrical installations from vandalism, emphasizing that protecting public infrastructure is a collective responsibility.

Idem was the only member from the state in the House of Representatives, the governor singled out and praised for superlative performance.

Meanwhile, residents of communities in Ukanafun and Oruk Anam local Government areas where test-run of the electricity project is ongoing, have started enjoying power supply.

Already, residents of Ward 1, Ikot Akpa Nkuk, the Ukanfun Local government headquarters, have expressed joy over the supply of electricity to them by Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Company on Monday, April 6.

Recall that for quality assurance, test-run had commenced in few communities covered in the first phase of the electrification rehabilitation and restoration project, to ensure safety, reliability, and functionality before the system goes fully operational. This process is also necessary to detect installation faults, verification of performance, prevent costly rework, ensure regulatory compliance and smooth handover.

The test-run followed successful pole planting, cabling, installation of transformers and other power infrastructure in communities covered in the first phase.
