As electioneering campaign for the 2027 elections kicked off nationwide last Wednesday, the Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi has declared that ‘‘A new Nigeria is possible,’’ urging his party members and supporters to remain united, peaceful and focused.
The declaration came in the face of economic, security and corruption challenges, among others confronting the country.
Obi, who addressed his supporters in Uyo on Saturday after attending the funeral service of the late Elder Etim Umoh in Oron, a retired Director of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reiterated the message of hope and possibility associated with his political movement, declaring that “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
His declaration was met with applause from party supporters, youths, women, political stakeholders and other members of the gathering.
The Presidential candidate commended the leadership and members o NDC in Akwa Ibom for their efforts toward strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.
The NDC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Enyong, popularly known as Babantan, welcomed Peter Obi on behalf of the party leadership and members in the state.
Enyong said Akwa Ibom people are increasingly interested in a new approach to governance that places the welfare and aspirations of citizens at the centre of government policies.
He highlighted the need for transparency, accountability, effective leadership and policies capable of creating opportunities for young people while improving the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.
The governorship candidate also expressed confidence in the ability of the NDC to build a strong political structure in Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier, the State Chairman of NDC, Dr. Bassey Willie, had said the visit represents an important moment for the party and its growing People First Movement, particularly as political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum across the country.
Dr. Willie described Peter Obi as a leader whose qualities of integrity, competence and commitment to people-oriented governance resonate with the aspirations of Nigerians seeking a new direction for the country.
He said the NDC in Akwa Ibom State remains committed to the vision of “Service to the People”, adding that the party is prepared to work with individuals and groups who share the desire for a better and more accountable Nigeria.
Willie emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation, unity and responsible political participation as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
Dr. Bassey Willie thanked Obi for visiting the state and participating in the funeral activities, while also appreciating party members, supporters and stakeholders who came out to receive him.
According to him, the NDC Akwa Ibom State leadership said it would continue to engage citizens, strengthen its structures and promote its message across communities as the party prepares for the next electoral cycle.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to building a political platform focused on service, unity, discipline, accountability and the welfare of the people.
The reception brought together members of the NDC State Working Committee, chapter chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, candidates and other party stakeholders from different parts of Akwa Ibom State.
The visit attracted party stakeholders, youths, women, candidates and supporters who gathered to receive the former Anambra State governor and NDC presidential candidate.
The NDC leadership said the presence of stakeholders from the state’s 31 Local Government Areas demonstrated the party’s growing grassroots engagement and commitment to building a strong political organisation ahead of 2027.

The party further maintained that its focus remains on promoting governance that delivers tangible benefits to citizens rather than merely pursuing political positions.
The visit comes at a time when political parties and aspirants across Nigeria are increasingly strengthening their structures and engaging with grassroots communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
