In a bid to rid Akwa Ibom of criminals, the state Police Command has assured to protect people in different communities who volunteer useful information that will lead to fishing out criminals living in their respective domain.

Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, the State Commissioner of Police who stated this when leaders of Midim community comprising Midim Atan, Midim Nto Udo, Midim Ikot Ubo, Ikot Inyang Udo and Ikot Akpan villages in Essien Udim local government area led by Chief Abel Wilson, the Village Head of Ikot Uboh paid him a courtesy visit at the command headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo asked the people to give information that will help in apprehending suspected criminals.

Some months ago, Midim community witnessed the menace of the notorious Akwa Marine Cult group and other related crimes that paralysed economic activities in those villages. Up till now in most communities in the state, avalanche of cult groups have metamorphosed into criminal gangs terrorising, killing and kidnapping innocent people.

Ogunjemilusi said “Midim community is just one of those communities we have decisively launched our intelligence on. But we are not magicians. We work on information. You should be able to volunteer useful information to police officers and we would do the rest.”

“Before your posting to the State, Midim community was under siege and constant threat by cultists who freely paraded the villages and its environs, stealing, robbing, maiming and killing innocent natives of the community, without fear of God, human sympathy or fear of the law,” Chief Wilson told the commissioner.

“We were treated like animals and severely dealt with mostly by the Akwa Marine cult group that invaded the community. Upon your arrival you immediately swung into action to protect the life and property of citizens in every part of the State, restoring law within the state. The killing of many of the notorious cultists and their gang leaders across the state has restored the people’s confidence in the Police Command,” the royal father happily remarked.

Upon such effusions of accolade, the Commissioner of Police reassured them that he was in the State to ensure improved security throughout the state,

He used the occasion to share security tips with the community leaders, and said that his office was open at all times to receive reliable information on criminal elements, promising that sources of such information would be protected.

“I am here to improve security in the State. As a Commissioner here, my duty is to protect lives and properties of the people. We are very committed to fighting crime, especially in the rural communities,” Ogunjemilusi assured.

But such gallant effort and assurance of protection of life by the police did not go unnoticed by the community leaders who lauded the police for tackling and drastically reducing crimes in the state.

In the words of Wilson, “We are impressed by the remarkable performance of the police since your assumption of office in our state.  You have been able to employ effective policing and high level professionalism which has drastically reduced the crime rate in our communities and in the entire state.

He, however, urged the Police to sustain the drive by ensuring that some unrepentant elements were not allowed to freely parade in the communities, assuring to cooperate with the police to restore total peace to their area.
