Today is marked world wide as Good Friday.

It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death on the cross at Calvary.

It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday.

The Federal Government had declared Friday, April 19, and Monday, April 22, 2019 as public holidays to mark Good Frday and Easter Monday.

Special church service is held on Good Friday across Akwa Ibom State. And in Uyo, the state capital Chrsitians worshipped in their various churches while others keep conventions and retreats.

The date of Good Friday varies from one year to the next on both the Gregorian and Julian calendars.

The Bible, the son of God was flogged, ordered to carry the cross on which he would be crucified and then put to death.

Good Friday is significant because Jesus Christ was crucified on that day and Christians are expected in deeds to be mourning on the day.
