    Akwa Ibom Police Rescue A 4-Month-Old Baby From Sham Mother

    Akwa Ibom Police have rescued a four-month-old baby from a woman in Obot Akara Local Government Area, who could not give account of how the baby was born.

    Mr. Imohimi Edgal, the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Police, stated this during a press conference Tuesday at the state Police Command, Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo local Government Area.

    Edgal said “On a reliable information, Operatives of Anti-Child Theft/Trafficking arrested one Grace Moffat Udofia ‘f’, 36yrs of Edem Idim Okpo Ete, Obot Akara Local Government Area who was found in possession of a 4-month-old baby, but she could not give an account of how the baby was born.

    “The baby was rescued and sent to Ministry of Women Affairs, while investigation continues.”

    Already, the suspect is in police custody and may be arraigned for prosecution.

    He also said “Responding to a credible intelligence on 3/8/2020, Operatives of Anti-Child Theft/Trafficking Unit arrested one Peace Archibong Umoh ‘f’, 35 yrs of Ikot Akpan, Essien Udim Local Government Area who after putting to bed a male child on 9/7/2020, later sold the child.

    “The baby had been rescued from one Nseabasi James Ukpong ‘f’, 45 yrs of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area who bought the child.”

    “Operatives of the Anti-Child Theft/Trafficking acted on a tip-off and arrested one Ifeoma James Inalegwu ‘f’, 52 yrs of Okigwe, Imo State and Joy Njoku Patrick ‘f’, 40 yrs of Ikwerre, Rivers State for child trafficking.

    “The suspects conspired and pretended to assist one Victory Anietie Okon ‘f’, 22 yrs of Nung Udoe village, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, who after giving birth on 5/7/2020 needed an assistance from them for the upkeep of the child, but was deceived and the baby was trafficked to Imo State.

    “The one-month-old baby had been rescued and re-united with the family. The Suspect will be arraigned in court,” he added.
