    Akwa Ibom Police Command says it is committed to strengthening officers’ competencies through advanced training.

    Speaking at the opening of a workshop, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, Mnipr, fsi, noted that “the partnership with Partners West Africa Nigeria underscores the Command’s the importance of continuous learning and adaptation to contemporary policing standards.

    The Command is also poised to promote effective policing, uphold human rights, and foster improved police-community relations in line with global best practices.

    The workshop is organised by the State Police Command in partnership with the Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative, also known as Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWA-Nigeria).

    In a press release in Uyo on Tuesday, DSP Timfon John, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, Mnipr, fsi, said the two-day intensive training programme will be held on Tuesday-Wednesday, February 3-4, 2026, at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo Local Government Area.

    The release said the “workshop is aimed at enhancing the professional competence, operational effectiveness, and leadership capacity of senior police officers within the Command.”

    The workshop curriculum is expected to address critical and emerging areas of modern law enforcement, including advanced investigative techniques, human rights-based policing, cybercrime awareness, and community-oriented policing strategies.

    Partners West Africa Nigeria is a reputable non-governmental organisation committed to the promotion of the rule of law, security sector reform, and good governance across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

    This initiative reflects the proactive approach of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to personnel development and its unwavering dedication to building a more secure, just, and law-abiding society through a professional, empowered police force.

    Police Bust Black Axe Confraternity Initiation, Nab 2  In Uyo

    In another development, two suspected members of a cult group – the Black Axe Confraternity, are now cooling their feet in the custody of Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Uyo.

    Their arrest followed an intelligence-led operation on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., that a group of suspected cultists were conducting initiation activities at one Secondary School, along Oron Road (name withheld) in Uyo.

    DSP Timfon John, LLB, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mohammed Azare, announced this in a statement on Monday, February 2, 2026

    According to the statement, “Upon arrival at the scene, the suspects fled on sighting the patrol team, abandoning a red mini-bus with registration number NYA-164XA.”

    The Police thereafter gave a hot chase, and succeeded to apprehend two suspects namely: Anietie Isaac (Male) and Unyime Effiong (Male).

    She said items recovered at the scene include: One axe, One brown calabash, One bottle of Lord’s alcoholic drink, Different types of incense, coloured handkerchiefs, and One Neo Black Axe (Neo Lord’s Movement of Africa) sticker.

    Already, the suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing thorough investigation.

    DSP John said the state Commissioner of Police, reaffirms the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism and related crimes and assures the public that sustained efforts will continue to rid the state of criminal elements.

    She encouraged members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information.

    Recall that in March 2020, the Akwa Ibom State Government, under Governor Udom Emmanuel, signed the Cultism and Other Violent Behaviour (Prohibition) Order 2020, which outlawed 65 cult groups, societies, and groups in the state.

    This order, which took effect on March 16, 2020, revoked the previous 2018 order and expanded the list of banned groups to include those operating in primary and secondary schools.

    Among the proscribed groups include, Cult Groups and Confraternities such as Vikings (and Junior Vikings/J.V); Black Axe (and Luttox/Junior Black Axe); KKK; Buccaneers (and Junior Buccaneers); Mafias (High Mafia, Street Mafia, Family Mafia); Debam (Deybam); Dewell (Deywell); Icelanders; Red Skins (and Supreme Red Skin); Pirates (Naval Lords); Amoc; Akwa Marines; Utoto Groups (419); and Neo Black Movement of Africa, among others.
