The Akwa Ibom State Police Command secured 23 convictions on various criminal offences from January to July 2025, showing a remarkable progress in the fight against crimes in the state.
The convictions, ranging from a minimum of two weeks to three years imprisonment, were for such offences as stealing, assault, burglary, felony, and escape from lawful custody.
A press release by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom Command on Tuesday, said the outcomes reflect the Command’s intensified efforts on crime prevention, professional investigation, and effective prosecution.

‘‘All legal proceedings followed due process. Arrests, investigations, and trials were executed in line with constitutional provisions and best practices in law enforcement.
‘‘The positive results of the Command’s approach are being felt across major towns including Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket, where residents have reported a significant decline in burglary, theft, and violent crimes. Public sentiment reflects a growing sense of security and confidence in the Police Force.
‘‘Since assuming office in late 2024, CP Baba Mohammed Azare had introduced several reforms, including: enhanced community policing, rapid response mechanisms, professional retraining of officers and direct supervision of field operations,’’ John said.
CP Azare commended the officers and men of the Command for their hard work and dedication to duty, promising that all outstanding performances will be adequately rewarded. He also appreciated the efforts and support of the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice.
According to her, the Command assures the public of its commitment to sustaining progress through intelligence-driven policing, increased patrols, and public enlightenment campaigns.
Meanwhile, the State Police Command successfully recovered a stolen vehicle on July 26, 2025 after a report was lodged on July 18, 2025.
The owner of the said vehicle (name withheld) who is a resident of Nto Obo 1 Midim in Abak LGA, reported to the Police that his saloon car, a Toyota Camry was stolen from the car park of a hospital (name withheld).

A press release signed by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Wednesday, said the owner parked his car in the hospital premises at about 1:45 p.m. on July 18, 2025 after he had received a tally card at the gate, but he discovered the car had disappeared before his medical appointment was concluded.
‘‘A diligent stop-and-search operation led to the sighting of the stolen vehicle on July 26, 2025, along Ikot Ekpene Road Main Park at about 9:30 p.m. One Otoabasi George Ime was found in possession of the vehicle. Mr. Ime claimed to have purchased the car from a car stand located along Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo LGA.
‘‘Both the suspect and the recovered vehicle have been taken to the station for discreet investigation.
‘‘Diligent investigation will be conducted and outcome of the process will be made public,’’ the press release added.
