Like yams, two women were roasted to their bones by angry mob over allegation of their involvement in child kidnapping in Iwo, Osun State on Thursday, December 10.
It was gathered that three persons- one male and two females – were alleged to have kidnapped a four-year-old child at Oja-Oba market Square. While the man escaped, the two women were caught, beaten to a pulp, hung with tyres and set ablaze by the mob.
Eyewitness reported that “During the interrogations before they are set ablaze by an angry Iwo citizens, one of them said they are from Ogbomoso, Oyo State. And one of the suspected women kidnappers confessed they were caught at Ori-Eru area in Iwo Osun State.”
Another witness wrote on his Facebook page: “Just about 3 days ago when a ritualist den was discovered in the ancient town of Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. About 40 minutes ago, two other Kidnappers were caught kidnapping a 4-year old child at the centre of the market Square called Oja-Oba, just a few walks to the Palace of the Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom.
“The kidnappers were however beaten mercilessly by the angry youths and Jungle Justice sets in when the two Kidnappers were set ablaze some minutes ago. The kidnappers have been burnt to bones and the angry mob kept pouring fuel on the corpse saying they must turn to ashes before they leave the scene.
“The duo kidnappers are foreigners as they’re not aware of the current happenings in the town and how angry the people are towards criminality and cruelty towards the human creatures.”
An Iwo resident narrated that the suspects were first taken to the Palace of Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, for him to decide their fate but he told the mob to take them away.
However, Ibrahim Ali, the palace spokesman, debunked the claim, saying that the Oluwo was not at the palace when the incident happened and that the crowd was expected to take the suspects to the police station, not palace.
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Adie Undie, who confirmed the incident said that the angry mob barred the policemen in the town from moving near the scene.
