The Supreme Court, Friday, dismissed a suit filed by 19 states challenging the constitutionality of the laws establishing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit. The 19 states were Kogi, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Enugu, Oyo, Benue, Anambra, Plateau, Cross River, Ondo, Niger, Edo, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Ebonyi, and Imo. A court in Uganda has convicted a 21-year-old TikToker for seeking public flogging of President Yoweri Museveni on TikTok. Emmanuel Nabugodi, who created a video depicting a mock Museveni trial, faces up to seven years in prison for “spreading hate speech” against the head of state. He pleaded guilty on Wednesday, November 13, and was remanded in custody at the notorious Kigo maximum security prison near Kampala until November 18, when he will be sentenced. Suspected gunmen, on Thursday evening, reportedly shot and killed an Inspector of Police and also abducted two Chinese in a bloody operation at Quarry Camp in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has allegedly accused the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) of playing a role in undermining Nigeria’s public education system. ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke made the claim during ASUU’s Heroes Day 2024-2025 ceremony in Abuja, and expressed frustration over the government’s ongoing delay in renegotiating the 2009 agreement, despite years of advocacy and signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Memoranda of Action (MoAs).
