The re-trial of the embattled former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, in absentia, suffered a setback on Thursday, following the absence of his lawyer in court. Metuh’s lead counsel, Mr. Emeka Etiaba, SAN, was said to have gone to the Supreme Court to handle another matter. Thousands of women and girls in the North-East Nigeria who believed they were freed from Boko Haram insurgents by Nigerian security forces were instead sexually abused in exchange for food and assistance, an Amnesty International investigation has revealed. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has released the list of 58 illegal universities in Nigeria. The commission said the universities are yet to be licensed by the federal government and have been shut down for violating the national minimum standard for education. The Federal Government, states and local governments shared N701 billion as revenue for the month of April, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr Mahmoud Isa-Dutse has disclosed. Isa-Dutse told newsmen Wednesday that the amounts shared were the outcome of Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC ) meeting. Giving a breakdown of the revenue accrued in April, the permanent secretary said mineral revenue increased by N50.7 billion, that is from N360.51 billion in March to N411.2 billion in April. The Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Oyo State Police Command has arrested a Lance Corporal with the Nigerian Navy, Jimoh Adesoye, 28, twin brothers and 12 other suspects for robbery and receiving stolen goods. Biometric gadgets for the implementation of daily salary payment for civil servants have been introduced by the Ugandan government in a move to pay every civil servant according to the number of days worked rather than a guaranteed monthly salary.
