As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, an indigenous oil giant in Rivers State has awarded scholarships to 374 students in its host communities. The company, Belemaoil Producing Limited in a Joint Venture, JV, with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, put the scholarships in three categories: Post-Graduate, Undergraduate and Post-Primary. Of the 374 beneficiaries, 175 are under-graduates, 78 post-graduates while 121 of them are post-primary students. Akwa Ibom State government has admitted that the two industries inaugurated last year in Onna local government area of the state are owned by private investors. The industries- syringe factory and Electric Metering Factory- were inaugurated by Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in September, last year, as part of the activities that marked the 30th anniversary of the state. The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State over alleged kidnapping of a nine-year-old child and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. The suspects: Bello Musa, 27, gang leader; Ibrahim Rere, 70, Musa Sani, 33, Isa Aliyu, 50 and Hudu Yahaya, 35 were said to have kept Hadiza Husseini, the victim in the house of one of the suspects.
