The Cross River Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state. The command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Wednesday. Despite the current economic hardship, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has jacked up the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, to N617 per litre at outlets in the country. Nigeria’s annual inflation rate rose from 22.41 per cent in May to 22.79 per cent in June, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced Monday. NBS said the June inflation rate showed an increase of 0.38 per cent points compared to May 2023 headline inflation rate.
