The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has secured the release of a legal practitioner, Pius Awoke, after he had spent three years in the detention cell of the Department of State Services, DSS. Awoke, who belongs to the Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Branch of the NBA, was arrested and detained since 2021 by DSS operatives on an allegation of terrorism. The Akwa Ibom State Police command says it has rescued a 63-year-old retired Shell Petroleum Company worker, abducted and held hostage by suspected kidnappers. During the rescue operation, the command said one of the suspected kidnappers died, following a gun duel between the rescue team and the suspected hoodlums.
