Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), the Nigerian subsidiary of global oil giant, Shell Plc, has agreed to pay $16 million (£13 million) to four Nigerian farmers and their communities to compensate for damage allegedly caused by pollution coming from leaks in its oil pipelines. Four Ogoni farmers and fishermen sued Shell in the Netherlands in 2008 to pay for cleaning up spills in their villages: Goi, Oruma and Ikot Ada Udo. Two brothers, Godwin and Wisdom Udoh, indigenes of Akwa Ibom, are to die by hanging for the murder of one Miss Oluchi Okorie, a staffer of Radio Nigeria, Unity FM, Abakaliki. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has bowed by raising its weekly cash withdrawal limits set for individuals and Corporate Organisations to N500,000 and N5 million respectively. The earlier limits pegged individual cash withdrawal per week at N100,000; while Corporate organisations were limited to weekly withdrawals of N500,000.
