Against the sustained upswing in the prices of gas, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has blamed vessel scarcity, foreign exchange and oil prices for the rising cost of LPG, otherwise known as cooking gas, nationwide. Straightnews gathered that in Uyo the price for 12.5kg of LPG has risen to N12,375 against N10,625 sold in October. In what looks like leaving the main drum to beat its sides, Akwa Ibom State government has misfired on the accusations of Policy Alert. Alert, a Civil Society Organisation that promotes fiscal and ecological justice in the Niger Delta, had raised some controversial appropriations made in the Akwa Ibom State 2023 Supplementary Budget. The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly had, in September, passed a Supplementary Budget of N150 billion in addition to N700 billion earlier approved, bringing the total revised budget to N850 billion for 2023 fiscal year. A mother-of-three, whose son in viral ”Mummy Calm down” video, has reportedly committed suicide. Toluige Olokoobi Babalola reportedly took her life in Benin City, Edo state, leaving behind her husband and three children. Toluige and her young son went viral in 2020 when she shared a video of him begging her to “calm down” when she wanted to discipline him. The video resonated with numerous people, including Lagos governor, BabaJide Sanwoolu. Hilda Baci has felicitated an Irish Chef, new Guinness World Record title in longest marathon cooking claimed to have been won by an individual. At last, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared nationwide strike from Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The leadership of the two unions reached the resolution after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Abuja. Barely five months after, Hilda Baci, the Nigerian Jollof Queen, who recently broke a Guinness World Records (GWR) for the longest cook-a-thon, has been officially dethroned. The GWR had in June 2023 announced that Hilda is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual), after reviewing all footage of the exercise. The Appeal Court has stopped two Nigerian ex-Governors from entry into Senate for failing to win the February 25 National Assembly elections. The appellate court in Lagos dismissed the petition by former governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, of the All Progressives Congress on the election on Saturday. Akwa Ibom State Government is ready to reintroduce bursary scheme to its indigenes in the tertiary institutions using digital process to pay same into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno made this known while addressing the management team of the University of Uyo, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Uyo. The state government paid bursary to its students from 1999 to 2015, but the government stopped payment of the money to its indigenes in tertiary institutions from 2015 to 2023.
