Nationwide strike looms over the purported arrest and ‘disappearance’ of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero in Imo State. This is as Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have condemned the alleged arrest of Labour President and vowed to go on unplanned strike. Kenneth Minimah, has sued for peace, warning that political godfatherism could jeopardise, if not resisted, development in Rivers State. By Our reporters Fire has gutted the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt ablaze. The fire was reported at about 10 p.m. on Sunday. It is suspected that hoodlums have reportedly set the complex ablaze. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) wants the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to pursue constitutional and legal reforms that would recognize Nigerians’ right to vote securely in free, fair and honest elections as a fundamental right. SERAP also urged him “to promote constitutional and legal reforms that would contain explicit mandatory provisions on internet voter registration, and the use of modern technology, including in casting and counting, voter registration and systems for reporting results.” The request was contained in letter dated October 28, 2023 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare.
