Facebook-parent Meta will become the latest tech firm to scale back its workforce, with plans to lay off thousands of employees this week, the United States media reported Sunday. Akwa Ibom State floored two major African cities to host a permanent Africa Regional Office complex of a 10,000-capacity International Conference Centre, courtesy of International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). Uyo in Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom beat such cities as Cape Town in South Africa and Kigali in Rwanda. The House of Representatives is planning to appropriate N170 billion fund in the 2023 budget for payment of salaries to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members. The Imo State Police Command has quizzed two suspects for alleged gruesome murder of Miss Joy Uchechi Nwachukwu, a cashier of a gas plant in Owerri, Imo State capital. An Akure High Court has stopped electricity distribution companies from giving estimated bills to residents and business premises without providing prepaid meters to determine appropriate tariffs. Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye, in his verdict, held that failure to fix prepaid meters to customers, residents or business premises when the money had been paid amount to breach of contract. The Central Criminal Court in London, the United Kingdom, has moved the trial of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, from May 2023 to January 31, 2023.
