The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has revoked the broadcast licences of Silverbird TV, AIT, Raypower FM, Rhythm FM and 49 others over failure to renew their broadcast licences. The stations were owing the Commission N2.6 billion since 2015. The debtor-stations include Africa Independent Television (AIT) and its sister radio station, Raypower FM; Silverbird Television, and 49 other stations across the country. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has joined human rights groups in the country in demanding immediate release of human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong jailed by Justice Ekaette Obot, the Akwa Ibom State Chief Judge. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the salary package the Federal Government offered, describing the salary as  ‘miserly’ offer. The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke in a statement said, “The major reason given by the Federal Government for the miserly offer, paucity of revenue, is not tenable.” This is as the Federal Government on Thursday insisted that it will not concede to the demand by ASUU members to be paid the backlog of salaries withheld during the ongoing strike. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, August 16, arraigned an internet influencer, Portia Emilia before a Lagos Special Offences Court, in Ikeja over alleged N110 million fraud.
