Owing to continued detention of innocent persons in Correctional facilities, Inibehe Effiong, human rights lawyer, has advocated the re-examination of Criminal Justice in Akwa Ibom and in Nigeria. Effiong who was freed after spending 30 days in Uyo Custodial Service Centre told journalists that while in the centre, he facilitated release of 17 prison inmates who could not secure their bonds. After spending 30 days in the correctional centre in Akwa Ibom State, Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has been released from Uyo prison for alleged contempt of court. The Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaete Obot, on July 27, sentenced Effiong to prison after the lawyer objected to the presence of two armed police operatives in the courtroom. A total of N954.085 billion was shared by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) among the Federal, State Governments, and Local Government Councils in the country for July 2022 Federation Account Revenue. This is contained in a communiqué issued by the Director (Information, Press and Public Relations), Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Henshaw Ogubike, at the end of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja. The nabbed Director, Finance and Account of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Eno Ubi Otu, is being grilled by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It was learnt that Otu was arrested by the detectives of the anti-graft agency at about 11:15am in relation to a case of alleged diversion of over N25 billion tax remittances.
