The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Akwa Ibom State Wing has ordered teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the state to proceed on an indefinite strike action. A press release dated March 13, 2022 and signed by NUT Senior State Secretary in the state , Comrade Victor O. A 38-year-old hunter from Akwa Ibom State has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for illegal possession of firearms. Edet Akpan George, married with eight children, was convicted Friday by Ibiono Ibom High Court in the state. Presided by Justice Okon Okon, the court found the hunter guilty of being in possession of firearms, contrary to Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004. A 300-level student of the University of Jos at the weekend committed suicide over the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) nationwide.
