Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel has announced government’s intention to appoint 10 more Magistrates for the Magistrates Courts in the state. This was as nine magistrates were sworn into office on February 3, 2020. Emmanuel stated this Thursday after swearing in two new High Court Judges for the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary namely Justice Eme Daniel Ekong and Justice Effiong Asuquo Effiong. Akwa Ibom State recorded a significant drop in the number of students who registered and sat West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the state for three years. This is despite the free and compulsory education supposedly provided by the state government in primary and secondary schools. Presenting the report to the State Executive Council of Akwa Ibom government on Thursday, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, the State Commissioner for Education, said the total number of those who took the examination from 2019 to 2021 were 54,171, 52,207 and 51,771 respectively. Nigerians have been warned against patronising hawkers of herbal concoctions, according to National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said such concoctions lack storage standards and might be coming from a non-credible source. Adeyeye added that though some herbal medicines work, consumers must ensure that they had passed NAFDAC’s safety and efficacy tests. Apple inc. has doled out $180,000 Christmas bonus to its engineers to stop them from joining rivals Meta (parent company of Facebook) and other IT rivals. Apple gave its engineers working in silicon design, hardware and select software and operations stock bonuses starting at $50,000 to $180,000. The shares which vest over four years, are an incentive to stay at Apple according to a report by Bloomberg. Lady Mary Abiola Wayas, wife of second Republic Senate President, Joseph Wayas and her husband are said to have died in the same hospital amid lingering sickness. The widow reportedly joined 12 days after husband’s death to the great beyond. Government of Cross River State government confirmed the death and Governor Ben Ayade described her death as shocking and devastating. U.S. and Russian officials will hold security talks next month, amid increasing Russian military build-up on its shared border with Ukraine. The January 10 meeting will focus on arms control agreements, NATO and Russian military activity as well as rising tensions over Ukraine.
